PETALING JAYA:
Three customs officers were charged in the Shah Alam sessions court today with accepting a total of RM8,600 in bribes since 2017 to allow lorries to exit the KLIA Cargo terminal without being checked.

According to Harian Metro, an officer and two assistant enforcement officers claimed trial after the charges were read separately before judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

Nasrizal Othman, 37, was charged with five counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM1,150 between Jan 25, 2017 and June 1, 2019.

Mazuki A Kadir, 54, was charged with 10 counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM2,900 between April 19, 2018 and April 4, 2023.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Samirruddin Japri, 38, was slapped with nine counts of accepting a total of RM4,550 in bribes from May 31, 2017 to April 2, 2019.

They were charged with committing the offences at the branches of a bank at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, as well as in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.

They were said to have received the bribes from the 38-year-old owner of a company through online transactions, as an incentive to let the company’s lorries go unchecked when exiting the KLIA Cargo terminal.

They were charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, and face up to 20 years’ jail or a minimum fine of RM10,000 if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutors Afif Ali and Maziah Mohaide prosecuted while lawyer Aizat Fakri represented Nasrizal and Mazuki. Samirruddin was represented by lawyer Adhwa Afiqah Azmi.

The court allowed Nasrizal bail of RM8,000 while Mazuki and Samirruddin were granted bail of RM10,000.

They were ordered to surrender their passports and report to MACC’s headquarters every month.

Case mention for Nasrizal and Mazuki will be held on July 25 and for Samirruddin on July 11.
