The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief, however, reiterated his earlier comment that for now he did not see any case.
“I understand what the prime minister is saying. He is leaving it to us. We are the (relevant) authority.
“And if he were to ask me, I will tell him that there is nothing for me to investigate,” he said, adding that he would even furnish the necessary documents on the issue at hand.
Azam said this during a meeting with representatives from the online media, here.
He was asked to comment on Anwar’s statement that a probe could be conducted into the decision by the Selangor government to award a demand-responsive transit (DRT) service project to Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd (Asia Mobiliti).
The company’s CEO, Ramachandran Muniandy is married to youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh, a fact that led some quarters to question if there was a conflict of interest.
Azam said MACC would open an investigation if any new leads were presented to them.
Yesterday, Azam said MACC would not probe the matter as it was not an offence, as there was no link between Yeoh’s ministry and the Selangor government.
Asia Mobiliti was selected alongside Badanbas Coach for the DRT service to provide first- and last-mile public transport services within the state.
The company had also issued a statement yesterday, in which it defended the decision for the project to not go through the tender process as that would have created a monopoly in the state.
