PETALING JAYA:
The investigation into the disposal of staple food items at a dumpsite in Temerloh,  Pahang in April has been completed, says deputy housing and local government minister Aiman Athirah Sabu.

Aiman said the investigation paper has been referred to the ministry’s legal division for review.

“Statements have been taken from seven to nine individuals,” she was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

“The case will then be handed over to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action as the ministry does not have prosecutorial powers.”

She also assured that if any wrongdoing is found, those involved will face legal action.

In April, former Kuala Krau MP Ismail Said admitted to disposing of rice and other food items after pictures of sacks of rice, sardine cans and flour dumped at the waste disposal site made the rounds on social media.

He said the items originated from a stockpile he had assembled for his constituents when he was the Kuala Krau MP. However, he said they were no longer safe for consumption.

The former deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker said he would take full responsibility, and apologised to all parties for the oversight in monitoring the disposal of the items.
