Fahmi pays tribute to ex-Star group editor Poh Tip

The communications minister says she had contributed significantly to the journalism field as the first woman to hold the position.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil has expressed his condolences to the family of the former group chief editor of The Star, Ng Poh Tip, who died today, aged 81.

Fahmi said Ng, who died at her home in Subang Jaya, had contributed significantly to journalism as the country’s first female chief editor.

“Her services and contributions will always be appreciated and remembered. May her soul rest in peace,” he said in a post on X.

Ng began her career as a journalist in 1971 and made history as the country’s first female group chief editor when she was appointed to the post at The Star in 1993, where she served until 2003.

The Star said Ng, whose husband died 10 years ago, has no children.

It said a memorial service will be held on May 25 and 26 at 16, Jalan Dewan Bahasa, Bukit Seputeh in Kuala Lumpur. The cortege will leave for cremation at Nirvana Memorial Park in Shah Alam at 11.30am on May 27.
