Penaga assemblyman Yusni Mat Piah said Zamri breathed his last at 1.38pm while in intensive care at the Seberang Jaya Hospital in Penang.
“He will be laid to rest at 6pm this evening at Masjid Sungai Acheh in Nibong Tebal,” said the PAS man in a Facebook post.
Zamri was admitted to Seberang Jaya Hospital’s intensive care unit on May 1 due to stomach inflammation.
The first-time assemblyman was elected to the Sungai Bakap seat during the August state election last year.
The Nibong Tebal PAS chief won the seat with a 1,563-vote majority in a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan’s Nurhidayah Che Rose.
He first contested for a seat in 2018, losing the race for the Sungai Acheh state seat by a mere 416 voters to PKR’s Zulkifli Ibrahim.
Earlier today, Penang PAS chief Fauzi Yusoff denied rumours that Zamri was in a critical condition, saying this was not true.
The state opposition leader said the Sungai Bakap assemblyman was stable and in “better condition” though he still needed rest and treatment, Sinar Harian reported.
