SHAH ALAM:
Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Sayed Mohamad, a former political secretary to opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin, was slapped with another corruption charge at the sessions court here today.

Sayed Amir, 42, claimed trial to the charge after it was read to him before judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

He was charged with soliciting RM350,000 in bribes from Nexuscorp Group Sdn Bhd managing director Wan Azhar Yusof four years ago to help the company secure the tender for a project related to the police force.

The contract was meant for the maintenance and supply of the infrastructure, server, and software for the police’s radio system, RMPNET.

Sayed Amir was charged with committing the offence at Nexuscorp Group’s premises in the Section 7 industrial area here.

The charge was framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of at least RM10,000, upon conviction.

Awang Kerisnada granted the prosecution’s request for the case to be transferred to the Kuala Lumpur sessions court, to be jointly heard with two other charges related to the same project.

Case mention at the Kuala Lumpur court has been set for July 12.

At the Kuala Lumpur sessions court yesterday, Sayed Amir pleaded not guilty to two charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM350,000 from Wan Azhar to help Nexuscorp Group secure the project worth RM381 million.

The court granted Sayed Amir bail of RM60,000 with one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport until the disposal of the case.

Today, Awang Kerisnada allowed for the bail and conditions set by the Kuala Lumpur court to be applied for the case in the Shah Alam sessions court.
