PETALING JAYA:
The Election Commission will be notified tomorrow about the vacancy in the Sungai Bakap state seat following the death of assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff today, said Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.

He said the Speaker of the state assembly had been informed about Zamri’s death and the secretary of the state assembly will notify the EC.

Chow spoke to reporters after attending Zamri’s burial at the Sungai Acheh Muslim cemetery in Nibong Tebal today, Bernama reported.

“We only got to know each other after the (Penang) state elections last August and only had one meeting together,” Chow said.

Zamri, 56, died this afternoon in hospital where he was treated since May 1 for a stomach inflammation. He is survived by wife Musalmah Yusop and six children.

A first-time assemblyman, the Nibong Tebal PAS chief won the Sungai Bakap seat last August with a 1,563-vote majority in a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan’s Nurhidayah Che Rose.
