The pupils were from Years 4, 5 and 6. Seven of them were taken to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital, where they were reported to be in a stable condition.
The school’s Parent-Teacher Association head, Zubir Othman, said the pupils suffered symptoms such as stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea.
“Those affected were said to have taken kuey teow soup during recess and started having symptoms of food poisoning at about noon,” he said.
“The school authorities contacted the MERS 999 emergency line.”
The school prepared a special classroom for hospital staff and Kuala Muda district health officials to attend to those who were affected.
Zubir said the canteen had been ordered to close for three days for further investigations.
