Varsity student dies, 3 friends seriously injured in accident on LPT2

PETALING JAYA:
A Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) student died while three of his friends were severely injured after their car was involved in an accident at Km312.4 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) near Kijal yesterday.

Fathol Harris Asri, 21, from Sungai Semambu in Bagan Serai, Perak, was confirmed dead at the scene from injuries to the head in the 5.20pm incident.

Kemaman police chief Hanyan Ramlan said those severely injured were the driver, Ignatius Suren Santhanasamy, 21, and passengers Noramirah Syahirah Abdullah, 21, and Nur Farah Shakirah Mohd Hishamudin, 23.

Two others, Nur Mazni Andri, 21, and Azira Adriana Natasha Amirul Faris, 21, were slightly injured.

The accident was believed to have occurred on their way back to the UMT campus from Kuantan.

“All the victims were on their way back after having done coursework at the Casa Femina shelter home in Taman Tok Sira, Kuantan.

“The car turned over, flinging all the victims out of the vehicle.

“All those injured have been sent to Kemaman Hospital for  treatment,” Harian Metro reported Hanyan as saying.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
