Peeping Tom in Terengganu gets 6 months’ jail

PETALING JAYA:
The Kuala Terengganu magistrates’ court today sentenced a labourer to six months imprisonment for outraging the modesty of a woman by peeping at her while she was in a public toilet.

Berita Harian reported that magistrate Nik Tarmizie Nik Sukri handed down the sentence after Alauddin Zahid, 23, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Alauddin was charged with outraging the 22-year-old woman’s modesty by peeping at her while she was in the women’s toilet of a shopping mall in Kuala Terengganu at 10.05am on Monday.

The charge was brought under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with up to five years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both if convicted.

The court ordered Alauddin to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on May 13.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nur Amalina Najwa Ali, while the accused was unrepresented.
