Ex-CEO nabbed over alleged misappropriation of govt funds

The arrest of the suspect formerly with a statutory body comes hours after two others were detained in a related case.

An MACC source says the suspect is believed to have transferred funds from the finance ministry to contractors and negotiators between 2019 and 2021.
PETALING JAYA:
A former CEO of a statutory body was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission last night on suspicion of abuse of power and misappropriating development funds from the finance ministry.

An MACC source said the suspect, in his 60s, was detained at 8pm when he went to the MACC headquarters to give a statement.

The suspect is believed to have transferred part of the ministry’s RM1.2 billion funds to contractors and negotiators for purposes that did not relate to the development’s cost, the source said.

The funds were believed to have been transferred between 2019 and 2021.

MACC investigation division senior director Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the arrest.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act for abuse of power.

The suspect has been remanded for two days from today.

The arrest came hours after MACC nabbed two senior officers with the same statutory body suspected of committing a similar offence.

The duo have been remanded for four days to facilitate the investigation, with their cases also being probed under Section 23 of the MACC Act.
