Socso CEO Azman Aziz Mohammed has called on employers to register their employees with the organisation immediately, in line with the current amnesty period which started on May 1.

He said employers were given 30 days to register their employees to avoid the possibility of fines, prosecution, and late payment contributions (ILPC).

“If employers still fail to register their employees during the amnesty period, we will not compromise with them.

“We will consider enforcement action on employers through Ops Kesan 2024, where fines can reach up to RM5,000 depending on the offence committed,” he said at a press conference today.

Ops Kesan is scheduled to begin in June.

Azman added that employers would be subject to a 6% per annum ILPC charge for each day the contribution is late.

“Employers can also be taken to court and, if found guilty, can be fined up to RM10,000, imprisoned for up to two years, or both,” he said.

He said as at March 31, nearly 1.55 million employers were registered with Socso under Sections 4 and 5 of the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969.

However, he said, only 600,000 employers made at least one contribution in the past 12 months.
