In an Utusan Malaysia report, Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said a breathalyser test showed readings above the alcohol consumption limit.
Raub said the man, who is in his 30s, had seven outstanding traffic summonses but no criminal record.
He said the incident occurred last Saturday when Masyitah, a 2023 SEA Games bronze medallist, was hit from behind by a red Toyota Vios when she was riding her motorcycle at 4.30pm.

“The vehicle was said to have suddenly changed lanes from the middle lane to the left, which caused the accident,” Raub said.
“The victim fractured her right shoulder and hip bone. She also suffered several injuries to her legs.”
Raub said the driver, who was arrested on Sunday, was detained for 24 hours before being released on bail.
The case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury, which carries a prison sentence ranging from seven to 10 years and a fine of between RM30,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction.
It was previously reported that Masyitah sustained serious injuries after she was dragged with her motorcycle for 600m along the highway after a car rammed into her from behind.
Raub called on eyewitnesses to provide information to the police or contact investigating officer Lee Ya Yek at 014-6977122.
Masyitah is currently in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Johor Bahru, her brother, Syafiq, 29, told Bernama.
He added that she underwent pelvic and right shoulder bone surgeries yesterday and is now in stable condition.
“Both surgeries were done simultaneously, and the next one will be for plastic surgery,” he said today.
