PETALING JAYA:
The immigration department and home ministry are exploring the possibility of implementing a QR code system at several of the country’s main entry points to tackle congestion.

Immigration director-general Ruslin Jusoh said studies on the matter had been carried out and that the department would soon test the system, Bernama reported.

“One of our commitments is to address congestion at the country’s main entry points.

“(The QR system) is still in the early stage and has not yet been implemented, but the details will be announced by the home ministry later,” he was quoted as saying.

In December, Johor proposed that the federal government introduce a QR code system at the customs, immigration and quarantine complexes in the state, something that neighbouring Singapore is already doing.

Putrajaya and Singapore also said in January that passport-free travel was among the initiatives they were looking to implement to support the development of the Johor-Singapore special economic zone.
