KUALA LUMPUR:
The body of a Malaysian crew member who reportedly fell into the sea while installing a “pilot ladder” on a vessel in the waters of Chittagong, Bangladesh, last Wednesday, was found by the rescue team yesterday.

Ikmal Azam Thanaraj Abdullah, executive secretary of the National Union of Seafarers of Peninsular Malaysia, confirmed the discovery of the 31-year-old victim when contacted by Bernama.

He said further details on the incident would be provided after the union meets with the victim’s family today.

“The victim’s body is still in Bangladesh for a post-mortem. After meeting with the victim’s family today, I will share the details of the incident,” he said.

Social media user @DanialDDD earlier said on X that his colleague was believed to have fallen from the ship in Bangladesh waters last Wednesday.

He called on the public to pray for an easy search and rescue operation and shared a video of the sea conditions where the incident occurred.
