PARIT (Perak): Malaysia’s first university faculty of artificial intelligence will be launched on May 10, higher education minister Zambry Abdul Kadir said today.

He said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is expected to officiate the symbolic launch to be held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

He said the faculty will be based at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in consortium with other universities. “We want to make it a truly high-quality faculty with experts from other universities joining in to ensure the faculty’s success,” he said after a university-entrance fair held here.

Zambry was previously reported to have said that an AI bachelor’s degree programme had been approved in January, with the first cohort to begin their studies in October.

He said the AI curriculum had been developed to fulfil industrial needs, involving experts in the field and in line with the national roadmap on artificial intelligence.
