PETALING JAYA:
A flight instructor and a trainee on board a Cessna 172 light training aircraft survived when it crashed at a plantation in the Felda Besout 2 Tambahan area in Sungkai, Perak, this morning.

Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri identified them as Captain Shahrul Imran Surea, 26, from Kuala Lumpur, and Ho Jia Lee, 20, from Lahat, Perak, Bernama reported.

He said both suffered minor injuries, with Shahrul having a broken leg, while the right side of Ho’s face was partly swollen.

“The training aircraft belongs to Layang-Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd, which is based in Ipoh.

“The aircraft left Ipoh at 7.59am heading for Tanjung Karang as part of the flight training, but crashed near Sungkai at 9.30am, on its way back to Ipoh,” he said in a statement.

Perak fire and rescue department director Sayani Saido said Shahrul and Ho were safely removed from the crash site and taken to the Slim River Hospital.

“We received a distress call at 9.46am and two teams, from Slim River and Bidor, were despatched to the crash site about 20km off the main road,” he said.

A video showing the wreckage and one of the survivors calling for help has since gone viral on WhatsApp.
