PETALING JAYA:
The Islamic development department (Jakim) has opened a 24-hour hotline to receive complaints of people insulting Islam, especially on social media platforms, religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar said.

He said Jakim will manage the hotline with state religious departments, the federal territories religious department, the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Berita Harian reported.

Na’im said a Jakim-led technical committee will scrutinise the validity of these complaints before informing the relevant state religious authority to take action if needed.

“If it involves offences under the Penal Code, the complaint will be referred to the police.

“We will work with MCMC to take down content from social media platforms, especially that which threatens public order.

“Any party found to be insulting Islam must be brought to court as a lesson to all,” he said.

He said the public may WhatsApp 017-323-4533 or email [email protected].
