PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed this evening that Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli was indeed detained, despite a denial on the latter’s Facebook page earlier today.

The country’s top graft buster, Azam Baki told Malaysiakini that Shukri was, however, released on MACC bail after his statement was recorded regarding an alleged abuse of power case.

“Yes, MACC detained Shukri for investigators to record his statement. Since his questioning has been completed, he has been released on MACC bail,” Azam was quoted as saying.

A statement on Shukri’s Facebook page uploaded by the administrator earlier said Shukri was not arrested, contrary to a news portal’s report.

Neither was Shukri remanded, the statement read, adding that Shukri was allowed to return after providing his statement.

In a subsequent Facebook post, Shukri stressed the importance of obtaining accurate news.

“Don’t spread fake news. As I’ve stressed before, I will continue to cooperate with MACC in their investigation,” he said, adding that there was nothing to worry about.

Shukri’s son and four others are being investigated over the alleged falsification of documents related to claims for infrastructure projects worth RM600,000.

The five, who were detained last Wednesday, were released on bail by MACC two days later.
