PETALING JAYA:
Police have completed investigations into a social media user over a “distasteful” comment following the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of 10 navy servicemen.

In a statement, Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department (CID) director Shuhaily Zain said it had probed an X (formerly Twitter) account belonging to one “Saifuddin Shafik”.

“Saifuddin” was investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code which deals with intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace as well as abuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“Saifuddin” was also probed for insulting behaviour under the Minor Offences Act. The suspect’s phone was also seized.

“The investigation paper has been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers,” Shuhaily said.

He went on to advise the public against commenting or speculating on the matter out of respect for the victims’ next of kin, adding that there was a need to be more sensitive about such matters.

On Tuesday, the two navy helicopters crashed while conducting a third rehearsal for a fly-past as part of the navy’s 90th anniversary event, scheduled to be held this Saturday.
