PETALING JAYA:
The younger sister to Joanna Felicia Rohna, one of the 10 navy crew members killed in the helicopter crash in Lumut, Perak earlier today, wants her sister to be buried in Sarawak.

“I want to see her for one last time,” Honey Viviane Francis told Bernama.

The 16-year-old, who last met Joanna during the Gawai festival last year, said she was informed of her sister’s death by her father at 11am.

Her father, she said, came to her school and informed her as well as her younger sibling of the crash. He also showed her the video clip of the crash that had gone viral.

“I was shocked and speechless, (it’s like) I couldn’t believe she’s gone. It feels like only yesterday I was chatting away with her.”

In Kedah, the elder sister to Faisol Tamadun, 36, said she did not expect the recent Aidilfitri celebration would be the last time they were together.

Noryani, however, recalled an ominous conversation she had with Faisol.

“On the morning of Raya, he said, ‘let’s take a picture with the three of us for the last time. He also asked me to cook rice with salted fish and eggs, and again he said the words ‘for the last time’.”

The 50-year-old said that Faisol had wanted to join the navy since his schooldays and enlisted after Form 5.

In Perak, the teenage daughter of commander Amir Mohamad said she was attending a pastry class at school when she was informed of her father’s death.

Describing her father as a man of few words, Nuraina Farhana, 16, said the last time she saw him was on Sunday.

“The memory I will cherish most is of my dad taking me to play futsal when I was a child.”

Meanwhile, the eldest daughter of petty officer Noor Rahiza Anuar said she last saw her mother this morning before going to school near their quarters within the Royal Malaysian Navy base in Lumut.

Nur Qistina Awliyah said she never expected her mother’s excitement to celebrate Aidilfitri to be an omen of sorts.

She said on the first day of Hari Raya, her mother was the most excited about taking pictures and even her father had found it strange.

“After that, mama said perhaps this will be the last memory we can cherish.”

Earlier today, two helicopters collided and crashed during a rehearsal for a Royal Malaysian Navy event. All 10 aboard the two helicopters perished.

A 21-second video of the incident that has gone viral on social media shows one helicopter crashing into the tail of another mid-air, and both crashing to the ground after that.
