Cops probe child’s injuries after posting goes viral

Kajang police say the injuries inflicted on the child are believed to have been caused by another child.

The child is believed to have been injured in her foot, which needed surgery.
PETALING JAYA:
Police are investigating the injuries seen sustained by an eight-year-old girl in a social media post that went viral.

Kajang deputy police chief Nasir Drahman confirmed receiving a report filed by the child’s nanny last Thursday.

“An investigation found that the child’s injuries were likely to have been inflicted by another child, who happens to be a neighbour of the nanny. The suspect in this case is also a minor,” he said in a statement.

Nasir said the investigation is being carried out under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for neglecting and abusing children.

“All individuals involved will be interviewed,” he said.

Images showing the injury on the child’s foot went viral after a netizen published them on social media yesterday.

In the now-deleted posting, the netizen claimed that the child required surgery and is receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

She also claimed the incident was reported to the police, but no action had been taken.

Separately, women, family, and community development minister Nancy Shukri said she was informed that social welfare department officials are in touch with the child’s mother.

“This case is being investigated by the children’s unit of the Hulu Langat social welfare department,” she said in a posting on X.

She also said the ministry is always concerned about cases concerning the safety and protection of children.

“If you witness or are aware of any incidents involving a child, please report them to Talian Kasih at 15999,” she said.
