PUTRAJAYA:
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken statements from Badrul Hisham Shaharin, Salim Iskandar and Wan Azri Wan Deris to assist in an investigation into a case believed to involve the violation of provisions under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

In a statement today, MCMC said it took statements from Badrul, also known as Chegubard, and Salim at its headquarters in Cyberjaya, Selangor.

Wan Azri, whose alter ego is believed to be Papagomo, gave his statement at the Setapak police station in Kuala Lumpur, it said.

MCMC said the dissemination of false content is a breach of the provisions under the Act as it can cause public fear or panic and is prejudicial to public order.

“After the enquiry is completed, the investigation papers will be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further instructions,” it said.

It said investigating officers seized the mobile phones of the three men as it believed these were used to upload contentious videos on social media platforms.

The case is being investigated for using network facilities to transmit communication deemed to be offensive or annoying to another person under Section 233 of the Act, which provides a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment of one year, or both, if convicted.
