PETALING JAYA:
Gerik police have detained a man who allegedly threatened to kill his wife and tortured her using candle wax.

Gerik police chief Zulkifli Mahmood said the man was arrested last night at Kampung Alai in Gerik, Bernama reported.

He said police received a report from the 35-year-old woman at about 1.35am alleging that she was tied up and threatened with a knife by her 42-year-old husband, who accused her of infidelity.

“An initial investigation found that at about 10.30pm on Saturday, the victim was sleeping at home when her husband tied her hands from behind with a rope while holding a knife.

“The husband accused her of infidelity and asked her to confess.

“The man also forcibly removed her gold chain and bracelet, tore her clothes and dripped candle wax on her body while threatening to set her on fire. The victim denied all the allegations,” he said in a statement today.

Zulkifli said the woman pretended to want to use the bathroom and asked her husband to untie her. She found a set of car keys in the kitchen and escaped to the nearby police station to file a report.

He said police arrested the man at his home in Kampung Alai, Gerik, at 8.30pm yesterday and  seized several items, including a knife.

The woman was taken to the Gerik district hospital for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and under Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt.
