Heavy congestion on routes to Klang Valley amid heavy rain

Slow-moving traffic is reported on major stretches of the North-South highway and East Coast expressway as holidaymakers return from their hometowns.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Heavy traffic congestion is reported on highways from the northern region and east coast towards the Klang Valley this evening as city dwellers return from their hometowns after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.

Road users have been advised to remain cautious as most of the affected areas are reported to be experiencing heavy rain.

The Malaysian Highway Authority said that as of 5pm, northern routes into Klang Valley are backed up, particularly from Pendang to Gurun and Sungai Petani Utara; Bertam to Sungai Dua; Permatang Pauh to Perai; Bandar Baharu to Alor Pongsu; Bukit Merah to Taiping; Gopeng to Tapah; Sungkai to Slim River; and Tanjung Malim to Sungai Buaya.

On the East Coast Expressway 2, traffic is at a crawl from the Paka R&R area towards Paka, and Kijal towards Chukai.

On the East Coast Expressway 1 towards the Klang Valley traffic has built up from Lancang to Karak, Lentang, and Genting Sempah.

Traffic from the south is reported to be under control, with affected stretches only from Jasin to Simpang Ampat; Pedas Linggi to Port Dickson; and Bandar Ainsdale to Nilai.
