PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said such a move would also align with the government’s promises for reform, Berita Harian reported.
“It is part of the Reformasi movement that was previously advocated. It will demonstrate the fulfilment of past promises, thus enhancing democracy,” he was quoted as saying.
“We are committed to being a constructive opposition under the parliamentary system. The opposition represents the will of the people, and the government must respect this by allocating funds to every elected representative.”
The Kubang Kerian MP said allocating funds to all MPs, including the opposition, was important so that they could fulfil their role as checks and balances and ensure thorough debate and support for all budget allocations.
Yesterday, deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said the government will discuss the allocations for opposition MPs next Wednesday, following his meeting with opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin on March 19.
Tuan Ibrahim also expressed hope that the allocation for opposition MPs could be realised and distributed soon.
“We have fulfilled Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s request to hold meetings and negotiations.
“We anticipate that these negotiations will yield positive results, leading to the distribution of allocations,” he added, while also urging other state governments to emulate the Kelantan and Perak governments in distributing allocations to all assemblymen equally.
