
Bandar Baharu district police chief Azmi Mokhtar said the victims, aged 85 and 55, died at the scene of the accident, which occurred at about 8pm. Four other passengers in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
“Investigations revealed that the vehicle driven by the man was travelling from Serdang to Bandar Baharu.
“The vehicle is believed to have entered the opposite lane and grazed the right side of a lorry before veering off the road,” he said in a statement today.
The bodies of both victims were sent to Kulim Hospital for a post-mortem, while the injured passengers received outpatient treatment at the same hospital.

In Kota Tinggi, Johor, a woman and her three-month-old baby girl were killed when the car they were in was involved in a collision with a tanker lorry at Jalan Tanjung Balau-Bandar Penawar near Taman Sri Penawar yesterday.
Bandar Penawar fire and rescue station spokesman said Najwa Nurshahira Kamaruzaman, 28, and Felkah Nurnadeera Fahmy, who were the front-seat passengers, were killed on the spot.
“The mother and baby were found pinned to the seat,” he said in a statement today.
He said the woman’s husband, aged 30, who was driving the car and their two other children, aged eight and five, sustained minor injuries, while the 34-year-old lorry driver escaped unhurt.
