Syarifah Faraha Syed Husin, who turns 41 today, was slapped with one charge under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act for allegedly possessing a gun.

Meanwhile, her husband, Abdul Azim Yasin, 43, was charged under Section 9 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act for consorting with Faraha by carrying the weapon.

If found guilty, Faraha and Azim could face a jail sentence of up to 14 years. Azim could also be given six strokes of the rotan.

According to the charge sheet, the couple allegedly committed the offences at about 8pm on March 29 at a house in Kampung Bukit Belimbing, Kuala Selangor.

Judge Sharifah Hascindie Syed Omar did not grant bail and set June 11 for mention.

Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said that Shalom Avitan, the Israeli man detained in Kuala Lumpur last month with six guns and 200 bullets, was expected to be charged in court this week.

He added that the local couple who allegedly sold Avitan the weapons would be charged in a Klang court today.

He added police are still investigating Avitan and his motive for coming to Malaysia.

Israeli news outlets reported that Avitan, who is affiliated with the Musli brothers crime family, came to Malaysia to kill the head of a rival crime family amid a violent feud between the two crime families.
