
A spokesman for the company said it has been made aware of the incident involving its business partner FamilyMart, which operates the convenience store.
“Chevron takes this matter seriously and is working closely with our partner to investigate the allegation,” Chevron said in a statement to FMT.
A video clip making the allegation about the store in Bukit Mertajam has been going viral on social media since yesterday, with netizens condemning the purported action as dividing the nation further.
FMT is seeking a response from FamilyMart.

State executive councillor H’ng Mooi Lye said the state government does not endorse segregation policies and any such practice could be a breach of business licence conditions.
He said the complainant should come forward and report it to the local council. “We will be reaching out to FamilyMart regarding the issue. I hope that MCMC (the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) will investigate this as well,” he told FMT.
