The entertainer, whose full name is Jaafar Onn Awang, breathed his last at the Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang, Selangor, at around 11.30am.
His death was confirmed by his stepson, Hanif Hashim, Berita Harian reported.
He said Jaafar was admitted to hospital two days ago after blood was found in his stool.
Jaafar had been forced to use a wheelchair for the past six months as he was suffering from heart issues which caused his legs to swell.
He underwent several medical procedures after his health started deteriorating about a year ago.
In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences to Jaafar’s family, saying the entertainer had left a lasting impression on the industry.
“… the late Jaafar consistently entertained the community with his unique and distinctive talents in acting and music,” he said.
