Over 17 million Malaysians have updated Padu data, says economy ministry

Economy minister Rafizi Ramli says Padu may be briefly reopened for registration and updates pending government decisions on subsidy mechanisms.

Economy minister Rafizi Ramli said efforts to refine subsidy targeting are underway, with plans for a Cabinet presentation.
PETALING JAYA:
About 17.65 million Malaysians aged 18 and above, comprising 58.7% of the country’s population, have updated their data with the central database hub (Padu), says economy minister Rafizi Ramli.

According to a statement, Perlis recorded the highest registration percentage at 66.9%, followed by Kelantan (65.2%), Terengganu (62.7%) and Pahang (59.7%).

States with the lowest percentage of registrations included Selangor (44.5%), Sarawak (46.7%) and Kuala Lumpur (47.6%).

Rafizi also said his ministry was planning to present a revised subsidy targeting plan to the Cabinet this month.

“Any announcement regarding this matter will be made by the government in due course,” he said.

As the registration deadline for Padu had expired yesterday, Rafizi said existing administrative data would be used to determine subsidy eligibility for citizens who were unable to register.

“If necessary, the ministry will announce the reopening of Padu for a short period to facilitate registration and updates, once the government has decided on the form and mechanism of targeted subsidies,” he said.
