Firefighters put out 20ha peat fires in Pahang forests

A fire and rescue department spokesman said firefighters were working on the remaining 10ha.

KUANTAN:
About 30ha of forest in the Inderapura agricultural department area here caught fire today because of the hot spell, Pahang fire and rescue department said.

A fire department spokesman said firefighters from Taman Tas fire and rescue station, with assistance from the Maran and Peramu stations, arrived at the scene at about 9.10am to extinguish the peat soil forest fire.

“An estimated 30ha of the area was ablaze and, so far, we have extinguished fire covering 20ha,” the spokesman said.

He said that as of 10pm, firefighters were still working to douse the remaining 10ha to prevent the blaze from spreading.
