
He said the current Dewan Rakyat meeting had to conclude on schedule today, with the bill’s first and second readings already completed.
The upcoming meeting slated for June will allow all MPs to take part and discuss the proposed changes in depth, he said.
“It is a day off tomorrow. In the arrangement of bills, the (debate for the) citizenship amendment bill was to take place after the cybersecurity bill. More time must be allocated for the debate so that all MPs can take part,” he told FMT.
Saifuddin had tabled the citizenship amendment bill earlier this evening, but the Dewan Rakyat was adjourned sine die before it could be debated.
The amendments aim to tighten citizenship criteria while considering security and humanitarian aspects.
The proposed changes include seven amendments, three new provisions and three repeals addressing national security and sovereignty.
The next Dewan Rakyat meeting is scheduled from June 24 to July 18.
