BUTTERWORTH:
A 17-year-old motorcyclist was killed while his pillion rider was seriously injured when they were hit by a car in the opposite lane after their motorcycle skidded and crashed on the Penang Bridge yesterday.

Police said it was believed that the motorcyclist rider lost control of the vehicle before it skidded and hit the road divider at about 4.30pm. The motorcyclist and his pillion rider, a girl aged 15, were thrown into the opposite lane and into the path of a car travelling from Perai to George Town.

“The car driver did not have time to avoid the victims, resulting in the death of the boy on the spot while the girl was seriously injured,” Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Helmi Aris said.

The accident caused severe congestion in both directions of the Penang Bridge.

Police urged witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.
