KUALA LUMPUR:
Defence minister Khaled Nordin is prepared to clarify issues flagged in the 2022 Auditor-General’s Report regarding negative balances in the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) reserves, if summoned by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Khalid said he has not yet received a request to provide an explanation to the committee chaired by Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

“I will explain to the PAC later. The PAC did not say they would summon me, they said they might summon me,” he told reporters after attending the Royal Military College’s passing-out parade in Sungai Besi today.

Khaled said the previous Auditor-General’s Reports involving LTAT were inaccurate because they only accounted for one of the three reserve funds, namely the comprehensive income reserve.

“We want to clarify that in 2022, LTAT’s reserves were indeed in a positive position. There are three reserve funds but the auditor-general referred to only one fund,” he said.

“The combined funds show positive figures for this year as well … 2023 is also positive (with reserves of) approximately RM900 million.”

On March 7, Mas Ermieyati said the PAC would summon the top management of LTAT to its proceedings over concerns about its financial situation.

She said the committee did not rule out the possibility of calling the defence minister responsible for LTAT as well.

According to the 2022 Auditor-General’s Report released on Wednesday, LTAT has had a negative reserve balance since 2020 and unrealised losses of RM0.662 billion from 41 old share portfolios.
