
V Nathan, 37, nodded when the charge was read to him before magistrate Sasha Diana Sabtu.
No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge sheet, Nathan is accused of murdering Thai national Mawika Lumyai, 32, at Trefoil @ Setia City in Setia Alam at about 10pm on Feb 28.
The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty, or up to 40 years in jail and whipping, upon conviction.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Nurul Farah Sofea Norazman. Nathan was represented by lawyer TP Aravind.
The court did not grant any bail and fixed June 7 for re-mention and submission of forensic reports.
