PETALING JAYA:
The High Court in Klang has dismissed Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s appeal to quash counterclaim damages amounting to RM30,000 awarded to a factory worker over false claims of electricity tampering.

Lawyer Esmael Shah Shahrudin, appearing for Eazrie Hafizie Aris, said Justice Norliza Othman made the ruling on Thursday.

He said the court held that this was not a case that warranted appellate intervention and affirmed the magistrate’s ruling that granted the RM30,000 award to Eazrie.

The court also awarded cost of RM5,000 to Eazrie.

The national power company had filed a suit against Eazrie, accusing him of meter tampering, and wanted him to pay RM26,811.75 he allegedly owed.

Eazrie filed a counterclaim against TNB for wrongfully accusing him of electricity tampering.

He claimed that the allegations caused him to suffer clinical depression.

It was later revealed that Eazrie does not have an account with TNB.
