PUTRAJAYA:
The Cabinet has voiced “a firm reprimand” against the behaviour of MPs making false statements during the debate on the royal address over the past two weeks, government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said today.

“The Cabinet would contact the Dewan Rakyat speaker’s office to make sure (it does not recur) because there seems to be an attitude of issuing a statement first, then apologising,” he said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting today, Bernama reported.

Fahmi said a series of false statements issued by MPs had confused the Dewan Rakyat, before being followed up with apologies.

“There is a contention as to whether there was any remorse, do they understand that what was said was incorrect,” he said, naming Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, Pengkalan Chepa MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary and Marang MP Abdul Hadi Awang.

Fahmi said ministers would respond to matters raised in the debate at the winding-up session scheduled to start on Monday.

On March 5, Wan Saiful apologised for uttering malicious statements against the prime minister in the Dewan Rakyat. He apologised after the speaker, Johari Abdul, asked him to explain his statement on Feb 28 during the debate on the royal address.
