Suza Amsyari Sulaiman, deputy chairman of 4B Terengganu Alumni, said housing for young people, as promised through the state’s affordable housing project which targets the construction of 20,000 units from 2018 to 2023, should take precedence.
“If they intend to fulfil this promise, it should have been executed long ago because since 2018, the state has received billions in petroleum royalties – funds that could have been allocated towards constructing affordable housing,” he told FMT.
“However, it seems that a racing circuit is being prioritised over a house.”
In a Facebook post last Tuesday, Razali said the state government was considering the construction of a medium-sized circuit akin to the Batu Tiga Circuit in Shah Alam.
The Kijal assemblyman cited Terengganu’s emerging popularity among motorcycle racing enthusiasts as the driving force behind the proposal.
Currently, motorcycling programmes, including motorcycle events, are hosted at the Terengganu Motorsport Circuit at the Gong Badak Sports Complex in Kuala Nerus.
Suza said many social media users in the comments section of Razali’s post had called for a reconsideration of the proposal, especially given the current economic challenges.
“In addition to the housing issue, there were calls for the state government to revitalise the tourism sector, echoing the robust efforts of previous administrations,” he added.
