KUALA LUMPUR:
The army has confirmed receiving a report on the alleged abuse of power and use of force by a senior officer against another personnel in Sarawak.

It said a police report was lodged by the victim last Sunday following an incident that allegedly occurred during training.

The report has since gone viral.

“In the report, the victim claimed he was slapped on his face and kicked in the abdomen by the senior officer, resulting in injuries to soft tissue above the eye and blunt trauma.

The army said it would establish an internal investigation board to identify the cause of the incident and investigate the allegations.

“As a precautionary measure, the senior officer has been relieved from duty to enable the army to conduct a transparent and comprehensive investigation.

“If there is evidence of misconduct and abuse of power as alleged, our organisation will take appropriate action according to existing regulations and directives,” it said.

Army chief Hafizuddeain Jantan said he took the allegations seriously and was committed to identifying the cause of the incident, vowing not to compromise with the perpetrator if found guilty, regardless of rank and position.

“The army hopes that all parties will refrain from spreading the (police) report and leaving negative comments that may interfere with the investigation process,” he said.
