MACC nabs company director in RM1mil false claims case

The anti-graft agency believes the suspect pocketed the money for oil storage maintenance work which was not carried out.

The MACC said the man, in his 50s, was arrested last night at 7.30pm after arriving at the agency’s headquarters in Putrajaya.
PETALING JAYA:
A company director has been arrested on suspicion of submitting almost RM1 million in false claims for oil storage maintenance, pipe installation and closed-circuit television (CCTV) work, says the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The man in his 50s was detained at 7.30pm yesterday when he arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya for questioning, Bernama reported.

The suspect was produced before the Putrajaya magistrates’ court this morning, where magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted the MACC’s application to hold him until Saturday for further investigation.

According to sources, the MACC believed the suspect made a false claim for RM490,000 in 2021 for maintenance work on oil storage facilities and accommodation in Kota Belud, Sabah.

“The individual is also believed to have made more than RM470,000 in false claims for oil storage maintenance, pipe installation and CCTV work in Lahad Datu,” he said.

The source added that no work was carried out for either project.

Meanwhile, MACC special operations division senior director Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrest and said the investigation is being carried out under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
