Police say they are waiting for the post-mortem report but initial examination of the body revealed no injuries.

SHAH ALAM:
A three-month-old boy died after falling unconscious at a daycare centre in Setia Alam here on Monday, Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said.

He said police received a report about the incident from the baby’s father at around 3.30pm the same day.

The baby’s father had taken the boy to the daycare centre for the first time at 8.30am, before being contacted by the centre’s manager two hours later, informing him that the baby was unconscious.

“The baby was taken to Shah Alam Hospital’s accident and emergency department and was pronounced dead after attempts to resuscitate him failed.

“A post-mortem was carried out in the hospital’s forensic unit yesterday and police are waiting for the report,” he said in a statement today.

Iqbal said preliminary examination of the baby found no external or internal injuries.

He said the case is being investigated for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of a child under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years, a fine of up to RM50,000 or both upon conviction.
