KUALA LUMPUR:
Blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris is set to face trial in the sessions court here in July over a charge of making an allegedly seditious statement against the government.

At a case management today, judge Siti Aminah Ghazali fixed the hearing for July 11,12, 29 and 30.

Deputy public prosecutor Mustaffa Kunyalam also handed over to the defence documents, including cybersecurity reports, to enable Wan Azri to prepare his defence.

Siti also fixed the matter for further case management on April 18.

Wan Azri, whose alter ego is believed to be Papagomo, was represented by lawyers Rafique Rashid Ali and Logen Eskander.

He was slapped with one charge under the Sedition Act 1948 for claiming that the government was “pro-Israel and pro-Western nations”.

The remark was allegedly made in a Facebook video on Nov 8, 2023.

If found guilty, Wan Azri faces a fine of up to RM5,000, a jail term of up to three years, or both.

He is out on bail of RM7,000 in one surety.
