According to The Irish Times, the 39-year-old man, who does not have a registered address in Ireland, was arrested upon his arrival at the airport on Wednesday morning.

Revenue officers conducted a baggage search, which led to the man’s arrest, it said.

The man, who was initially held at the Ballymun Garda station, was subsequently charged with the unlawful importation of cannabis and possession of drugs for sale or supply, in accordance with Ireland’s Misuse of Drugs Act.

During a hearing at Dublin District Court on Thursday evening, the man said he had “answered every question asked” regarding the drug importation allegation and refrained from responding to the charge.

Enforcement officer Peter Elliot, who told the court the estimated value of the seized drugs was €580,000, opposed bail.

Despite being provided with an interpreter during the hearing, the accused chose not to address the court and did not enter a plea.

Defence solicitor Eoin Lysaght said his client was not seeking bail at this stage. Judge Shalom Binchy remanded the accused in custody and scheduled his next appearance in Cloverhill District Court for next week.

The accused was also granted legal aid due to his financial circumstances. The court is awaiting directives from the public prosecutions director, the report said.
