Speaking at the finance ministry’s staff assembly this morning, Anwar said a comprehensive study on the public service remuneration system is expected to be completed within the next two months before being presented to the Cabinet for final approval.
“The chief secretary (Zuki Ali) and the director-general of the public services department (Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz) have agreed to expedite our efforts, so we are now ahead of schedule in reaching a decision,” he said.
Anwar said unnecessary delays should be avoided as the new salary scheme had been “12 years in the making” with numerous committees created along the way.
“Now, no more of that. We’re taking the ‘fast track’ approach. I, the prime minister, will personally oversee the process and we will finalise things,” he said.
Anwar previously announced the government’s commitment to rolling out the new salary scheme by the end of this year.
In August last year, the government announced that it was preparing to provide detailed information regarding the salary increment for approximately 1.3 million civil servants ahead of the tabling of the 2024 budget.
In his speech at the assembly today, Anwar also announced that civil servants in grade 56 and below would receive an incentive payment of RM2,000 on Feb 23.
All government retirees will receive an incentive payment of RM1,000 on the same day.
