The 10 traffic cops from the Petaling Jaya police headquarters are being investigated under the Minor Offences Act on top of a disciplinary probe.

SHAH ALAM:
Another investigation paper has been opened on 10 Petaling Jaya traffic policemen after RM3,753 in cash was found in a bag and a police car while they were on duty at a roadblock.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said in addition to the ongoing disciplinary investigation, the police had opened another investigation paper for criminal offence.

“We have opened another (investigation paper) under the Minor Offences Act,” Hussein said at a press conference here today.

On Sunday, Bukit Aman’s integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) conducted a check on the team during an operation at 2.30am.

JIPS found that one of the sergeants had cash amounting to RM3,313 in a bag while another RM440 was found in a police car.

A report was filed to determine if there was corruption involved or a breach of traffic police procedure.

The 10 men comprised one inspector, two sergeants, one corporal, three lance corporals, and three constables. They are attached to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters but have been transferred to a different unit pending investigations.

Hussein said the standard operating procedure dictates that a policeman on patrol or roadblock duty can only carry up to RM100 in cash.

If they carry more than that, they are required to declare it to their supervisor before starting their duty. They are also required to carry a logbook to jot down their activities while on duty.
