In a statement, DAP’s Bukit Gelugor MP questioned Razarudin’s characterisation of Pua’s statements as seditious while investigations are still ongoing.
“If the IGP has already concluded yesterday that Pua’s statement is seditious in nature, why is there a need to ask him to be present at Bukit Aman today for the purpose of assisting in investigations?” he asked.
“It seems that the IGP has already found Pua guilty without affording him the right to a proper and fair investigation.”
Ramkarpal, who is a former deputy law and institutional reform minister, said such actions undermine the fairness and impartiality of the investigation process.
“The IGP should do his job professionally and not be seen to influence the investigation process,” he said.
Bukit Aman has launched an investigation into Pua’s remarks against the Federal Territories Pardons Board’s decision to reduce Najib Razak’s sentence in the SRC International case.
Pua was summoned to be at Bukit Aman at 1pm today to assist in the investigation after Razarudin confirmed that a report about Pua’s Facebook posts, which allegedly insulted royalty, had been lodged.
The IGP, in his statement, said remarks such as those in Pua’s posts “are seditious in nature as they incite the public to harbour resentment and disrespect towards the royal institution, pertaining to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s absolute powers in exercising his authority under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution”.
On Saturday, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said the wing would file police reports nationwide over Pua’s alleged disrespectful remarks for questioning the decision by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
On Friday, the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced that Najib’s prison sentence had been reduced from 12 years to six, and the fine of RM210 million had also been reduced to RM50 million.
