Razali dared Zulkafperi to demonstrate that he still has the people’s backing after supporting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“If he feels that he’s so great and still has the support of many voters in Tanjong Karang, we challenge him to resign.
“We believe he won’t win if he contests again because his previous victory was on a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket,” he told FMT.
Zulkafperi declared support for Anwar and the unity government yesterday, saying it was for the sake of his constituents.
He became the sixth Bersatu MP to support Anwar without leaving the party, after Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).
Earlier today, Selangor PAS said it was determined to win the Tanjong Karang seat for PN at the next polls.
In a statement, Selangor PAS ulama council chief Zamri Zainuldin said Zulkafperi’s “extremely disappointing” decision to back Anwar meant that the party will no longer support him.
“For us, we will try to maintain the victory in the parliamentary seat and the two state assembly seats under it (Sungai Burong and Permatang),” said Zamri, who is also the Sungai Burong assemblyman.
