Police arrested the suspects, aged between 25 and 35, after the victim filed a police report against them last Thursday for allegedly extorting money from him since November last year.

Sources said the incident began on Nov 18, when the suspects raided a house at Taman Desa Gombak where the complainant and his friend were. There, they found 20 packs of ketum water.

Instead of arresting them, the suspects allegedly extorted RM10,000 from the complainant and his friend to avoid police action.

After negotiations, the suspects reduced their demand to an immediate sum of RM5,000 and a monthly protection fee of RM1,000.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid confirmed the report, saying all the suspects had been arrested.

“We have arrested them and the investigation paper will be sent to the deputy public prosecutor,” he told the media.

Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the suspects would be suspended from duty while an internal investigation is ongoing.
