J-Kom’s Wahab sues Chegubard over ‘homosexual’ claim

Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani accuses the Bersatu man of defaming him in two Facebook posts last year.

Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani is seeking general, aggravated, exemplary damages from Badrul Hisham Shaharin.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A junior officer from the community communications department (J-Kom) has filed a defamation suit against a Bersatu leader for implying he is a homosexual.

Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani filed the suit in the High Court against Badrul Hisham Shaharin, who is also known as Chegubard.

Badrul is a member of Bersatu’s information division.

Wahab alleged that Badrul uploaded two defamatory Facebook posts in November last year that implied he was involved in homosexual activities and was not a good Muslim.

“The plaintiff’s (Wahab) solicitors issued a letter of demand to the defendant (Badrul) on Dec 8, 2023, to take down the impugned Facebook posts.

“However the defendant did not comply with the demand and continued to publish the defamatory remarks,” Wahab said in his statement of claim.

Wahab added that the Facebook posts were published with malicious intent to gain popularity and that the direct references were made against him.

“The defendant named the plaintiff and the plaintiff’s political affiliation so the public knew who he was,” he said.

Wahab is seeking general, aggravated, exemplary damages from Badrul.

He also sought an apology from Badrul within 14 days after a judgment was entered against him.

In November last year, a three-minute-long recording showing a video call between a man allegedly resembling former J-Kom director-general Agus Yusoff and another person went viral on social media.

Agus claimed the video clip was edited and had also lodged a police report.

In December, Wahab, who is also Hulu Langat PKR Youth vice-chairman claimed he was sexually harassed by Agus.
